Contact details are provided in chapter 11. 10.1.1 Monash Research Graduate CentreThe Research Graduate Centre (building 3E) is located immediately to the north of the Monash Research Graduate School central offices on the Clayton campus. The centre provides a collegial atmosphere in which candidates can pursue their own individual research projects and also participate in a range of social, cultural and intellectual activities with other research postgraduates from a variety of disciplines. Offices are shared by two postgraduates and are equipped with internal telephones, bookshelves and desks. PCs are installed in many of these offices, and network connections are provided for all workstations. A computer laboratory housing PCs, a printer, a scanner and a photocopying machine is open to all registered centre users. An in-house centre supervisor and technical support officer are available during office hours to provide computer assistance for research candidates. The centre has a well equipped dining area and lounge on the ground floor. Coffee and tea-making facilities, a snack machine, refrigerators and microwave ovens are housed in two kitchens. These spaces allow candidates to meet with colleagues from other disciplines and create an opportunity for postgraduates to share experiences and ideas. 10.1.2 exPERT programThe Monash Research Graduate School's popular exPERT program focuses on key aspects of employment and research training. The program currently consists of seminars and workshops organised into several categories: 10.1.2.1 exPERT GeneralThe school's exPERT general workshops and seminars cover a broad range of employment and research training issues. 10.1.2.2 exPERT ITThese workshops seek to develop a series of IT skills that candidates may require. Training is provided in the use of Word, Endnote, PowerPoint, and more. 10.1.2.3 exPERT StatsA series of basic and advanced statistical workshops are offered on subjects of relevance to research candidates. 10.1.2.4 Other programsexPERT Teaching, exPERT Writing, exPERT Final Year and exPERT IP seminars are also offered under the program. 10.1.2.5 exPERT Summer schoolA range of special programs run over summer between 1 December and 1 March. 10.1.3 Information servicesThe Research Graduate Centre offers a range of information services on research and employment training matters. MRGS News is an e-newsletter emailed fortnightly to registered candidates. It contains the latest information on seminars, conferences, scholarships, research opportunities and other events relevant to postgraduate research candidates. Candidates are also able to access the JASON (Joint Academic Scholarships Online Network) database, the first and only Australian information database for postgraduate scholarships. JASON provides a comprehensive source of scholarships that will allow students to study either at a university in Australia or to travel overseas as part of their program. |
