Chapter 7: Thesis and examination matters7.4 Thesis written in a foreign languageCandidates may seek approval from the Research Graduate School Committee to submit a thesis written in a language other than English. Such requests are only considered where the intrinsic nature of the research requires expression in the foreign language. Examples of this are where a linguistic analysis of the foreign language is being undertaken or where translation into English could not be undertaken without the loss of the nuances of the original language. Where permission for this is granted, the submitted thesis must contain a substantial synopsis written in English of between 5,000 (for MPhil candidates) and 10,000 words in length. The Committee would normally expect such a request to be made within the first 12 months of full-time equivalent candidature. |
