Revised policy (changes have been highlighted in italics)
7.6.4 E-thesis
All doctoral candidates enrolled from 1 July 2005 are required to submit an electronic copy of their thesis after examination. Candidates must initially submit four bound thesis copies for examination purposes. Subsequent to the receipt of examiners’ reports and any necessary amendments, candidates must lodge an e–thesis along with any amended thesis copies. The e–thesis will be deposited directly to the university library.
The worldwide research community will have access to the theses’ bibliographic details, titles, content and abstracts, and, subject to any embargo, access to the full text. The Library will cease sending out microfiche or paper copies of theses unless specifically requested by the user. There will be a fee charged to the user for delivering a non digital format. An embargo of three years or longer may be placed on the full text of a thesis, as is the current practice (noting that the abstract, title, content pages and bibliographic details of embargoed theses will be available online). Authors of theses will add a copyright notice to the front of their manuscript, acknowledging that they have not knowingly added copyright content to their work without the owner’s permission. A procedure to manage the take down of inadvertent exposure of third party material will be established by the library in consultation with the University Copyright Officer.
Please note that candidates enrolled in the PhD (Visual Arts), PhD (Creative Writing), PhD (Music Composition), PhD under a cotutelle arrangement, professional doctorate, MPhil and research masters degrees are exempt from submitting an e–thesis.
