Disestablishment of DBA

Former Policy

The Doctor of Business Administration has been disestablished and will not be available for candidates in the future. However, the guidelines provided below continue to apply for those candidates already admitted and currently enrolled in the degree.

2.1.7 Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) To be eligible for admission, prospective applicants must hold:

  • a degree of bachelor with honours class I or II division A in a field of business administration, or
  • a masters by coursework in any field of business administration with equivalent honours class I or class II division A, or
  • a masters by research degree, or
  • a masters preliminary qualification deemed equivalent to an honours class I or class II division A qualification, or
  • qualifications which are considered by the Research Graduate School Committee to be equivalent to, or a satisfactory substitute for, the above qualifications.

In addition, applicants will need to have a minimum of one unit in statistics or research methods or its equivalent at either graduate or undergraduate level. Applicants must normally have a minimum of two years of professional work experience in any field of business administration.

2.2.2.4 DBA Subject to the general provisions specified in 2.2.2 above, credit may be granted where the DBA Committee is satisfied that a candidate has completed work equivalent to particular coursework units in a study program. Credit will not be granted, however, for more than 50% of the program's coursework units.

2.10.3 DBA All candidates are admitted to probationary candidature in the first instance. Candidature will be confirmed subject to the receipt of a satisfactory report of progress at the end of the first full-time equivalent year.

3.9.1.2 Mandatory coursework Where a mandatory coursework component has been undertaken as an integral part of the degree structure (some PhD and MPhil programs, the EdD, DPH, DPsych, DBA, DIT and SJD), this component must be completed successfully before the thesis is dispatched to the examiners for assessment. The nature and duration of such coursework will be notified to the examiners when they are sent the thesis.

3.9.1.8 DBA The program consists of approximately 20% coursework comprising two (12-credit-point) units, a 'Current issues in business' unit (six credit point) and a compulsory, unweighted DBA seminar.
