Faculty Master Class Proposals
Master classes constitute level 2 of the research supervision training program. The core program consists of modules run by MRGS using Monash staff members as presenters and one, the Intellectual Property seminar, run by MRGS, the STRIP and MonComm using speakers from Melbourne law firms. The Faculty of Arts also runs an approved module using Monash staff as presenters.
Faculties may put forward their own master classes for approval by the RGSC, which then count towards accreditation. This should be in areas where the need has been identified. Any faculty that proposes a faculty-based master class is in effect a ‘licensee’ of the master class model.
All new master classes must be open to the University community as a whole though they will be badged, eg as a humanities class. Faculties will be permitted to stipulate any master classes as compulsory for their staff to be accredited at level 2, as they are the best placed to identify training needs.
Proposals for new master classes from faculties must be approved by the Steering Committee of the Monash Research Graduate School and signed off on by the Director in order to ensure quality assurance. Faculties are responsible for organising and conducting their class, and for forwarding the names of attendees to MRGS afterwards. MRGS will advertise these classes as part of its master class program, and faculties will also inform their staff of the requirement to attend.
