Part-Time Awards

While taxable, the stipend of these awards will be set at a level that will be half the normal stipend, after tax. DEEWR guidelines state:

Institutions may approve a part-time award where an applicant is able to demonstrate heavy carer commitments or a medical condition such as:

  • carer responsibilities for a pre-school child; OR
  • carer responsibilities for school aged children as a sole parent with limited access to outside support; OR
  • carer responsibilities for an invalid or disabled spouse, child or parent; OR
  • a medical condition which limits the capacity to undertake full-time study (supported by medical certification).

The desire to undertake part-time employment is not a compelling social reason.

Candidates for part-time awards should be ranked as appropriate in faculty Order of Merit Lists, along with applicants for full-time awards.

Departments and faculties should indicate in the 'Remarks' section of their order of merit lists if recommending the student for a part-time award.
