Seminars and Workshops
The Monash Research Graduate School coordinates an annual seminar and workshop program for postgraduate research students, known as the exPERT program. The program focuses on key aspects of employment and research training and the development of generic and transferable skills.
exPERT Summer series
The summer series of exPERT seminars and workshops represents a significant expansion of the program to ensure seminars and workshops are available throughout the entire year. The summer series runs from the first week in November each year until the last week of March in the following year.
exPERT Replay
This very popular initiative allows students to view pre recorded exPERT seminars (DVDs) in small groups.
The DVDs are also available for loan from the Library.

The program is organised into the following categories:

exPERT General
These seminars and workshops offer students general training and information in a wide range of areas including those related to the successful and timely completion of candidature, stress and relationship management.

exPERT Information Technology
This hands-on workshop program consists of approximately 50 three hour computer lab-based workshops. The program allows students to improve their skill levels in the use of popular software packages such as EndNote, PowerPoint and Word.

exPERT Statistics
The exPERT statistics seminar program consists of a minimum of 13 two hour seminars that explain various statistical methods, concepts and software packages.
The seminars are presented by members of Monash's Statistical Consulting Service, and postgraduate research students are also entitled to 10 hours of consulting time at no charge.
- Introduction to Intellectual Property
The Monash Research Graduate School, in association with Monash Research Commercialisation will run Introduction to Intellectual Property seminars throughout the year - approximately once a month. Lawyers from some of Melbourne's best known legal firms with Intellectual Property expertise will be in attendance.
Topics includes IP basics, university's statute and regulations, assignment and licencing, copyright, patents and commercialisation.
The writing skills program consists of seven related workshops aimed at honing your writing skills. Topics covered include editing, writing abstracts, and making your thesis more readable.
This series is aimed at final years students as they move towards employment. The series aims to increase awareness among postgraduate research students of the skills and attributes they already possess, raise awareness of skill development programs, and career options both short and long term.
exPERT Seminar and Workshop Dissemination
The Monash Research Graduate School recognizes the diversity our postgraduate research community. In order to increase the accessibility of the exPERT program to all students, the school is employing a variety of strategies and products including using the latest digital online audio recording facilities, developing studio based DVD products, and of course, holding live seminars at as many campuses as possible.
Recent initiatives aimed at improving access to seminars and workshops are:
DVDs are now available for loan from the Library, so students can now watch a DVD in the comfort of their own home or office.
Radio Monash has made podcasts available of material of interest to postgraduate students and will shortly broaden its range to include sessions from the exPERT series of seminars Postgraduate podcasts

exPERT Seminars and Workshops - Online Resources (Monash only)
The Monash Research Graduate School has created a resource section where students can download training notes, pdf files of presentations, and access audio online lectures. In the near future, it is hoped that DVD presentations will be able to be streamed.

Monash Postgraduate Association (MPA)
The Monash Postgraduate Association organises a range of seminars, workshops and social functions for research postgraduate students.
UpSkills Program - School of Graduate Studies, Melbourne University
Monash postgraduates also have the opportunity to attend the School of Graduate Studies' UpSkills program seminars if places are available. Details on how to register can be found on the web site.
Postgraduate research students from the University of Melbourne are also invited to register for any exPERT seminar or workshop, if places are available.
